Evacuation Flights Unable To Leave Afghanistan

On Sunday, Fox news published a report of civilian charter flights being prevented from evacuating people out of Afghanistan by the U.S. State Department.

PlanB, the private rescue group, ran by Rick Clay has told Fox news that what is preventing his flights from Afghanistan is the State Department.

“This is zero place to be negotiating with American lives. Those are our people standing on the tarmac and all it takes is a f—ing phone call,” another individual, who will remain anonymous, that has been integral to private evacuation efforts from Afghanistan, told Fox News.

“If one life is lost as a result of this, the blood is on the White House’s hands. The blood is on their hands,” that individual said, adding: “It is not the Taliban that is holding this up – as much as it sickens me to say that – it is the United States government.”

Clay has given a manifest of 800 names out of 4,500 U.S. citizens, green card holders, SIVs and refugees to the State Department.

“It is imperative that we get into Doha where there [are] other refugee centers,” the PlanB founder told Fox News in a text message. “That is where I’ve asked for clearance.”

“If we can get aircraft in and pick up people and bring them out, why can’t we take them to Doha to the refugee center or other refugee centers?” Clay remarked. “This makes no sense.”

“We still have Americans we can get out,” he added.

Clay was finally told on Thursday that once the State Department reviewed their manifest, a process that could take several days, they would receive approval.

Clay shared some of the messages that he has received from a family on the PlanB manifest list that he has been in contact with.

“Please save us as soon as possible,” one message said. “My family and I are facing a lot of problems. My children’s health is deteriorating day by day due to many worries.”

“On the other hand, there are reports that the Taliban have recruited people in the Ministry of Technology and Communications to find people who will cooperate with US forces,” the person said. “If they find out anything about me, they will kill me and my family.”

Ron Johnson, Senator from Wisconsin told Fox News in a statement that it is “hard to believe that the U.S. government would deny American citizens and Afghan allies who helped save American lives the ability to evacuate Afghanistan.”

“However, what we’ve been hearing from people actually involved in evacuation is completely different from the administration’s rosy spin,” the senator said. “When I hear President Biden declare this debacle an ‘extraordinary success’ it not only shows he’s detached from reality, it also calls into question everything this administration is telling the American people.”

On Monday, following publication of this story, the State Department and Clay’s group successfully evacuated four Americans out of Afghanistan.

At the same time the Hill reports that the State Department to validate a claim made by Rep. Mike McCaul (Tx.) saying that the Taliban is holding flights hostage.

A spokesperson for the department told the Hill, they do not have “reliable means” to confirm details of any charter flights because of the lack of personnel in the region.

“Given these constraints, we also do not have a reliable means to confirm the basic details of charter flights, including who may be organizing them, the number of U.S. citizens and other priority groups on-board, the accuracy of the rest of the manifest, and where they plan to land, among many other issues.”

“We understand the concern that many people are feeling as they try to facilitate further charter and other passage out of Afghanistan,” the spokesperson added.

“As with all Taliban commitments, we are focused on deeds not words, but we remind the Taliban that the entire international community is focused on whether they live up to their commitments,” the spokesperson further stated.
