Trump DEMANDS Jeffries OUSTED After Court Remarks

President Trump called for the impeachment of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries after the New York Democrat labeled the Supreme Court illegitimate following a controversial voting rights ruling.

Trump Fires Back at Supreme Court Criticism

Trump took to Truth Social on Sunday to attack Jeffries, calling him a low IQ individual and questioning why Republicans have not initiated impeachment proceedings. The president referenced his own impeachment over what he termed a perfect phone call, suggesting Jeffries deserves similar treatment for calling the Supreme Court illegitimate. However, members of Congress cannot be impeached under the Constitution. Only presidents, federal judges, and high-ranking executive branch officials face impeachment. Congress has a separate expulsion process requiring a two-thirds vote to remove lawmakers.

Jeffries responded swiftly on social media, accusing the president of Jeffries Derangement Syndrome. The Brooklyn Democrat made his original comments after the Supreme Court struck down Louisiana’s congressional map last week, ruling the state practiced unconstitutional racial gerrymandering by creating a second majority-black district. The decision effectively weakened Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, prompting outrage from Democratic leaders nationwide.

Constitutional Limits on Impeachment Power

The House has expelled only six members throughout American history, most recently former Long Island Representative George Santos in December 2023 for fabricating his background and misusing campaign funds. Trump himself faced impeachment twice during his political career. The Senate acquitted him in 2019 following allegations he pressured Ukraine to investigate the Biden family. He was impeached again for his role in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot but again avoided conviction.

Midterm Elections Could Shift Power Dynamics

Jeffries could become a significant obstacle for Trump if Democrats reclaim the House in November midterm elections. Republicans anticipate Democrats will launch impeachment efforts and issue numerous subpoenas from major congressional committees if they gain majority control. The House minority leader has publicly downplayed impeachment talk but has not ruled out investigating Trump administration actions. Trump previously criticized the Supreme Court in February after justices blocked his International Emergency Economic Powers Act tariffs, stating some justices sicken him. The ongoing tension between the executive and legislative branches continues escalating as both parties position themselves for the approaching midterm contests.
