VIDEO: Obama ATTACKS Trump’s Iran Deal

Former President Barack Obama publicly criticized President Trump’s new Iran agreement just hours before its scheduled signing, claiming in a television interview that the deal likely offers no meaningful improvement over his own 2015 nuclear accord.

Obama Questions Trump Deal on National Television

During an interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts airing Wednesday on Good Morning America, Obama expressed skepticism about the Trump administration’s diplomatic achievement. When asked about handling nuclear Iran negotiations, the former president suggested any new agreement would fail to surpass his Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Obama claimed his original deal worked effectively for an extended period before the United States withdrew from the arrangement during Trump’s first term.

The former president also criticized the military approach that preceded the diplomatic breakthrough, stating his hope that bombing would cease and ordinary people would no longer suffer from war consequences. His remarks came as Trump prepared to finalize what the current administration describes as a fundamentally different approach to preventing Iranian nuclear weapons development.

Trump Defends New Agreement Structure

President Trump defended his Iran strategy on Saturday through social media, drawing sharp contrasts with Obama’s previous deal. Trump characterized Obama’s JCPOA as providing an easy pathway to nuclear weapons, claiming Iran would have obtained such weapons six years ago under that framework. The current president described his agreement as creating an absolute barrier to nuclear weapons acquisition, asserting that Iran no longer desires such weapons and will not obtain them through any means.

Trump emphasized a critical difference in financial terms, noting that unlike Obama’s arrangement involving hundreds of billions of dollars in payments to Iran, including $1.7 billion in physical currency, no monetary exchange will occur under his agreement. The Strait of Hormuz will reopen under the new terms, which Trump confirmed would be signed Sunday.

Peace Deal Reaches Final Stage

The United States and Iran have officially reached a peace agreement scheduled for signing on June 19 in Switzerland. This diplomatic breakthrough follows intensive negotiations and represents a significant shift in relations between the two nations. The agreement addresses nuclear weapons concerns while establishing new terms for regional stability and maritime access through strategic waterways.

The competing narratives from current and former presidents highlight ongoing political divisions over Iran policy. Trump administration officials maintain their approach corrects fundamental flaws in previous diplomatic efforts, while Obama defends his original negotiating framework as having achieved its intended objectives before American withdrawal disrupted implementation.
