Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson suggested President Donald Trump and musician Bruce Springsteen should sit down for direct talks to resolve their ongoing public feud, marking an unexpected intervention from the actor who has repeatedly distanced himself from political endorsements.
The Rock Proposes Celebrity Summit
Speaking with Esquire magazine, Johnson responded to discussion about Springsteen’s anti-Trump concert performances by questioning why the two men do not simply talk face-to-face. The 54-year-old actor stated he does not know where such a conversation would lead but believes sitting down together represents an important first step. Johnson emphasized his current focus centers on storytelling and creating art rather than political engagement, declaring he has learned to keep his politics private.
The feud between Trump and Springsteen has intensified throughout Trump’s presidency. The musician regularly criticizes Trump during concerts and released a protest song targeting the president in January. Trump has responded by calling Springsteen very boring and a total loser, escalating the public conflict between the entertainment figure and the political leader.
Johnson’s Shifting Political Stance
Johnson’s political involvement has evolved significantly in recent years. He endorsed Joe Biden for president in 2020, praising Biden’s compassion and soul in a video alongside then-running mate Kamala Harris. However, Johnson declined to endorse any candidate in the 2024 presidential election, telling Fox News the division caused by his 2020 endorsement tore him up. He explained his influence level convinced him to keep politics private and between himself and the ballot box.
The former WWE champion voted for Barack Obama twice but did not vote in 2016. During his Esquire interview, Johnson and the journalist asked artificial intelligence why people might vote for him. When AI suggested a Johnson candidacy would represent a vote against the current system, Johnson indicated he would show the response to his team.
Presidential Ambitions Remain Uncertain
Johnson has repeatedly discussed running for president, though his commitment remains unclear. He told USA TODAY in 2021 he would run if the people wanted it, then ruled out a presidential bid in 2022 to spend time with his children. By 2023, he told The Tonight Show he would consider a run down the road. His NBC sitcom Young Rock featured him playing a future version of himself running for president in 2032, keeping speculation alive about his political future despite his stated desire to avoid divisive partisan engagement.
