Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has exposed what appears to be a deliberate FBI effort to conceal evidence of potential crimes by the Biden family through document misclassification, raising serious questions about law enforcement manipulation under the previous administration.
Hidden Classification Scheme Revealed
In a letter sent Monday, Grassley and Senator Ron Johnson revealed that records obtained by the Judiciary Committee show the FBI deliberately misclassified information to obstruct congressional investigations into Operation Round River. This FBI task force compiled derogatory information on Joe and Hunter Biden before the 2020 election. The senators wrote to Attorney General Todd Blanche, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton demanding the release of documents that were improperly classified to downgrade alleged Biden family wrongdoing.
An undated email from an FBI supervisory special agent referenced classification caveats requested by the agency’s Office of General Counsel based on past experience with Crossfire Hurricane, the controversial 2016 investigation into alleged Trump-Russia collusion. Under former Director Christopher Wray, the FBI apparently intentionally misclassified information in ways that created more obstacles to access for both Congress and the American people.
Operation Round River Under Scrutiny
Documents indicate the Round River team may have operated as a Special Access Program with highly classified output. The operation served as a clearinghouse for claims about the Bidens, including potential criminal information, which were then discredited as foreign disinformation supposedly originating from Russia. Grassley first revealed in October 2023 that more than 40 confidential human sources provided information on the Biden family to multiple FBI field offices.
Grassley noted he has investigated Round River since July 2022, with much of the information parked away in a hidden classified compartment. A December 2019 email from FBI Section Chief Tony Riedinger to FBI Supervisory Special Agent Joe Pientka appeared to corroborate existing evidence that President Trump was the target of a political hit, according to the senators.
What This Means
The White House Government Transparency Task Force recently declassified several Round River documents showing the FBI sought to red flag information from confidential informants about Biden family corruption and Ukraine-related topics. Grassley also demanded declassification of information Defense Department officials shared about former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn during a 2017 Senate briefing. The revelations raise fundamental questions about whether federal law enforcement weaponized classification systems to protect political allies while targeting opponents during a critical election period.
