The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and NYPD Detective Bureau confirmed the identification of an adult female victim, marking the 1,654th person formally identified from the World Trade Center attacks. The victim’s family chose not to come forward publicly. This represents the first successful application of forensic investigative genetic genealogy to the World Trade Center identification effort, a methodology that did not exist when the towers fell 25 years ago.
Dr. Jason Graham, New York City’s chief medical examiner, called the development a breakthrough.
