Beloved Actor Dies at 46 – Famous Voice Silenced

Eric Bauza, the Emmy-winning voice actor who brought beloved Looney Tunes characters to a new generation of American families, died Sunday at age 46 from hypertensive cardiovascular disease, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

A Career Spanning Four Decades of Animation

The Canadian-born performer amassed more than 400 acting credits throughout his career, voicing some of America’s most recognizable cartoon characters. Bauza breathed life into Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Foghorn Leghorn, Tweety Bird, and Road Runner, among others. His work extended beyond Looney Tunes to include popular shows like Teen Titans Go, Bob’s Burgers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. He also lent his talents to the recent Space Jam film alongside basketball star LeBron James.

Bauza’s excellence earned him Children’s and Family Emmy Awards in 2022, 2023, and 2025, with another nomination in 2026. Industry professionals nominated him for five Daytime Emmy Awards between 2016 and 2021, recognizing his contribution to family entertainment that upheld traditional values and wholesome content for American households.

Honoring a Classic American Legacy

In an August interview with CBS Los Angeles, Bauza discussed his reverence for Mel Blanc, the original voice behind these iconic characters. He described Blanc as the blueprint and emphasized that these voices represent personalities familiar to Americans for 90 years, comparing them to the oldest family members. Bauza understood the responsibility of preserving these characters for future generations while maintaining their classic appeal.

The voice actor revealed that Bugs Bunny remained his favorite character to portray, though he felt increasingly connected to Daffy Duck’s personality as he matured. His sudden passing shocked colleagues and fans alike, leaving the animation industry without one of its most talented performers.

Industry Mourns Sudden Loss

Judy Coppage, Bauza’s manager, released a statement calling him a unique and versatile voice actor loved by everyone who knew him. She described his death as a profound loss for his family, the animation industry, and his fans worldwide. His family posted a brief statement on his Instagram account, promising additional details would follow. The entertainment community now faces the challenge of finding someone who can honor the legacy Bauza built while bringing these beloved American cartoon characters to audiences who cherish traditional family entertainment and timeless values.
