Dana White HINTS At Rubio’s 2028 Future

UFC President Dana White, the political kingmaker whose endorsement helped secure President Trump’s 2024 victory, signaled he may throw his weight behind Secretary of State Marco Rubio for the 2028 presidential race, revealing the two have become close friends through a groundbreaking State Department partnership.

White Confirms Growing Political Alliance With Rubio

White told OutKick’s Tomi Lahren that despite left-wing media pressure to exit politics after Trump’s term ends, his relationship with Rubio has deepened significantly. When asked about potential 2028 candidates, White emphasized multiple times that he and Rubio have grown very close, noting he has met Rubio’s sons and respects how the Secretary of State conducts himself. White praised Rubio as smart and capable, adding he likes Rubio’s family values and leadership style.

The UFC chief stopped short of issuing a formal endorsement, acknowledging that Vice President JD Vance also stands as a strong potential candidate. White called the situation tricky, saying he does not know enough about politics to comment definitively, but noted having two strong Republican candidates is not a bad position for the party heading into 2028.

Historic State Department Partnership Cements Relationship

White’s comments come as UFC announced a rare sports diplomacy partnership with the State Department, only the second such agreement after the NFL signed a similar deal in January. White and Rubio signed the memorandum of understanding last month, establishing UFC athletes and coaches as sports ambassadors through the State Department’s Sports Envoy Program. UFC operates globally with athletes from 75 countries, making it an ideal partner for international outreach efforts.

UFC Chief Operating Officer Lawrence Epstein said the organization is thrilled to work with Secretary Rubio to build bridges through community engagement. Rubio praised UFC for embracing excellence, discipline, opportunity, and meritocracy, calling the league a global phenomenon. The Secretary said the State Department is proud to partner with UFC and continue growing mixed martial arts worldwide.

Political Heavyweight Eyes Continued Influence

White’s potential backing carries significant weight in Republican politics. His endorsement of Trump proved instrumental in mobilizing key voting demographics in 2024. Both Rubio and Vance represent the future of the Republican Party, with Rubio having previously run for president in 2016. Rubio has publicly supported Vance, calling him a close friend who would make a great nominee. White’s hesitation to choose between the two reflects the delicate political balance as Trump’s term approaches its conclusion and succession discussions intensify among party leadership.
