A Georgia man wanted on murder charges was arrested at Port Canaveral while attempting to board a cruise ship, part of a busy day that saw six passengers with outstanding warrants detained by Brevard County deputies in Florida.

Murder Suspect Among Six Detained at Port

Martell Murray, 24, faced the most serious charges among those arrested on July 17. Deputies took him into custody on an out-of-state fugitive warrant alleging he violated conditions of his release while facing pending murder charges. Authorities did not disclose which jurisdiction issued the warrant or specify which release condition Murray allegedly violated. His traveling companion, Kenderia Burney, 24, was also arrested on a violation-of-probation warrant. Both remained in custody without bond at the Brevard County Jail as of this week.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey announced the arrests in a social media post, noting the two would be vacationing together at what he called his department’s Iron Bar Lodge, though in separate accommodations. The sheriff’s office did not identify the cruise lines or specific ships involved in the incidents.

Four Additional Arrests at Cruise Terminal

Veronica Hamlet, 38, of Tampa, was arrested on a failure-to-appear warrant and released the following day after posting one thousand dollars bond. James Otha Brewton, 66, of Allendale, South Carolina, was taken into custody on a violation-of-probation warrant and released after posting five hundred dollars bond. Two additional passengers were stopped as they disembarked from their cruise. Deputies determined both were on felony probation but had allegedly left the country without receiving required permission from their probation officers. Those passengers were not identified, and authorities did not disclose their underlying crimes.

Sheriff Ivey emphasized his department’s commitment to enforcement regardless of where suspects originate. Port Canaveral ranks among the world’s busiest cruise ports, serving millions of passengers annually. The arrests highlight ongoing law enforcement screening operations at the facility. Deputies coordinate with various jurisdictions to identify individuals with outstanding warrants before they board vessels or upon their return. The sheriff’s office indicated probation officials would complete necessary paperwork for the two passengers caught without proper authorization to leave the country while on supervised release.
