An 81-year-old Delaware man survived a harrowing ordeal after being lured to a Maryland home, tied to a chair, and tortured with hot syrup in a violent robbery attempt aimed at forcing him to reveal his home safe combination.
Violent Attack Unfolds After Online Setup
The Cecil County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Wednesday morning after deputies discovered the elderly victim naked and injured in the front yard of a residence around 8:30 a.m. Authorities determined the victim had traveled to the home expecting to meet 31-year-old Taylor Falcone. Instead, he encountered 28-year-old Michael Maniscalco, who immediately became aggressive. Maniscalco restrained the victim to a chair, preventing any escape, and launched a brutal assault that included repeated punches and threatening him with a knife to his throat.
The attack escalated when Maniscalco forced his victim to remove all clothing before pouring hot syrup over his body, causing multiple burns across his skin. Investigators say the torture aimed to extract the combination to a safe located at the victim’s Delaware residence. Maniscalco used a marker to write the safe combination directly on the victim’s forehead and chest while threatening additional violence if he failed to comply.
Daring Escape and Swift Arrest
During the assault, Falcone left the residence, according to authorities. Maniscalco stole approximately 80 dollars in cash along with valuable items including a gold chain, gold Seiko watch, gold bracelet, and keys to three luxury vehicles: a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette, a 2026 GMC Sierra, and a 2016 Cadillac Escalade. The victim showed remarkable courage and determination when Maniscalco fell asleep, seizing the opportunity to free himself from restraints and escape to safety outside the home.
Law enforcement responded quickly, taking Maniscalco into custody following a brief standoff. A thorough search of the residence resulted in recovery of all stolen property. Both suspects now face serious criminal charges, with authorities alleging they conspired together to lure the victim, detain him forcibly, and gain unauthorized access to his home and safe.
Justice Moves Forward
Maniscalco faces multiple charges including robbery, assault, and related offenses. Falcone has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, and additional crimes. The victim received medical treatment at a local hospital for his injuries and burns before being released. This case highlights the increasing dangers facing senior citizens who may be targeted by criminals seeking financial gain through violent intimidation and torture tactics.
