More than 4 million tubes of children’s toothpaste featuring popular brands like Barbie, Hot Wheels, and Crayola are being pulled from shelves nationwide after the FDA identified serious manufacturing violations at the facility that produced them.
Manufacturing Violations Trigger Massive Recall
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration classified this as a Class II recall, citing deviations from current good manufacturing practice requirements. The affected products were distributed by California-based Ashtel Studios Inc. but manufactured by Pritam International Private Limited in India. Class II recalls indicate that exposure to the product could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, though the likelihood of serious harm remains remote according to FDA standards.
The recall initiated on September 10 covers more than a dozen products sold under the Brush Buddies, Evo, and ARU brands. Among the recalled items are 409,800 tubes of Brush Buddies Barbie Bubble Gum Flavor toothpaste and 411,600 tubes of Hot Wheels Strawberry Flavor toothpaste. More than 960,000 tubes of three Crayola Silly Scents varieties in bubble gum, watermelon, and strawberry flavors are also included.
Which Products Are Affected
The largest single quantity involves nearly 798,000 tubes of Brush Buddies Whitening Anti-Cavity Fluoride Toothpaste with Baking Soda in Cool Mint flavor. Additional recalled products include Brush Buddies My Little Pony toothpaste, several ice cream-flavored varieties, and other whitening and cavity-protection toothpastes. The recall also extends to Evo Advanced Whitening and Sensitive toothpastes, along with ARU Gum Health and Cavity Protection varieties.
Parents can find the complete list of recalled products on the FDA’s official website. The recall remains ongoing as officials work to remove affected products from distribution channels across the country.
What Parents Need to Know
This recall highlights ongoing concerns about manufacturing standards for products made overseas and distributed to American families. The FDA’s manufacturing practice requirements exist specifically to protect consumers from contaminated or substandard products. Parents who have purchased any of these toothpaste products should check the FDA website immediately to verify whether their specific tubes are included in the recall and discontinue use if affected.
