Fishback ACCUSES Byron Donalds — Feds Push Back

Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate James Fishback accused his primary opponent, Rep. Byron Donalds, and Rep. Cory Mills of being under federal investigation for sex trafficking, but federal authorities have completely denied the allegations exist.

Whistleblower Claims Sparked Explosive Accusations

Fishback unveiled his bombshell allegations during a Thursday news briefing in Tallahassee. He claimed an unnamed whistleblower approached his campaign with evidence implicating both Florida congressmen in a federal sex trafficking investigation. According to Fishback, the whistleblower confirmed that an existing probe into Mills had expanded to include Donalds. He alleged federal investigators suspect both men traveled to a luxury Maryland resort on May 17, 2024, and November 19, 2024, to solicit and pay women for sexual acts.

The accusations referenced an NBC News report from July 21, 2026, stating Mills was under Department of Justice criminal investigation. Fishback suggested this investigation had widened to encompass Donalds, positioning his allegations as stemming from official federal law enforcement activity rather than political opposition research. He characterized the claims as part of a disturbing pattern of evidence his campaign had received.

Federal Authorities Reject Investigation Claims

Despite Fishback’s detailed allegations, federal authorities have completely denied any such investigation exists. The denial directly contradicts the core premise of Fishback’s accusations and raises serious questions about the credibility of his unnamed whistleblower source. The federal rejection undermines the foundation of claims that threatened to derail Donalds’ gubernatorial campaign and damage Mills’ congressional standing. Neither Donalds nor Mills has been charged with any crime related to these allegations.

Political Implications in High-Stakes Primary

The controversy erupts during a competitive Republican gubernatorial primary in Florida, where Donalds faces Fishback among other candidates. The timing of such explosive allegations during an election cycle naturally invites scrutiny about political motivations, particularly when federal authorities deny the investigation’s existence. Donalds, a prominent conservative voice in Congress, has built his reputation on traditional family values and constitutional principles. These unsubstantiated claims represent exactly the type of character assassination that can damage campaigns regardless of their veracity, making the federal denial critically important for voters evaluating the race.
