Criminal Investigation Targets Immigration Records
Multiple federal agents wearing HSI jackets descended on the Minnesota Democrat’s home around 6 a.m. Monday, executing a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. Two sources close to the investigation confirmed the criminal probe centers on Omar’s immigration paperwork, which her late father completed when she arrived from Somalia as a child. The Department of Homeland Security led the operation alongside HSI, the principal investigative arm handling cross-border crime, human trafficking, drug smuggling, and counterterrorism operations.
A DOJ spokesperson confirmed the enforcement action represents part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation but declined to provide additional details. The White House and DHS also refused comment on the operation. Omar’s spokesperson did not respond to requests for comment following the raid.
Omar Claims Political Targeting
Hours after federal agents searched her home, Omar took to social media to denounce the raid as weaponization of federal law enforcement. “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies,” she wrote, claiming President Donald Trump has targeted her with baseless lies and smear campaigns for ten years. She characterized the investigation as the latest escalation in a campaign of political intimidation, insisting she has done nothing wrong and vowing not to be silenced by what she called an outrageous abuse of power.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations Minnesota announced plans for a rally supporting Omar, with Executive Director Jaylani Hussein condemning what he described as racism, political intimidation, and attacks on democratic representation.

The raid comes as Omar faces mounting scrutiny over dramatic inconsistencies in her financial disclosures. Her 2024 filing reported shared assets with her husband valued between six million and thirty million dollars. However, her 2025 disclosure showed those same assets revised downward to a maximum of just one hundred twenty-five thousand dollars—a staggering drop of nearly thirty million dollars in one year. With the lower asset estimate at twenty thousand dollars against combined debts ranging from thirty thousand to one hundred thousand dollars, the Minnesota congresswoman could potentially have a negative net worth. Both Omar and her husband carry separate debts between fifteen thousand and fifty thousand dollars from student loans.
