Nine former FBI employees terminated for their involvement in the classified documents investigation of President Trump filed a federal lawsuit demanding reinstatement and back pay, claiming their dismissals were politically motivated retaliation that undermines national security.
Century of Service Dismissed
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, represents agents, intelligence analysts, and operations specialists who collectively served more than 100 years in the FBI. Their distinguished careers included responding to the Boston Marathon bombing, conducting hostage recoveries, and investigating the 2024 assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. Attorneys Margaret Donovan, Abbe Lowell, and Rebecca Tinio are representing the terminated employees against the Justice Department and FBI.
FBI Director Kash Patel testified before Congress that terminated employees had weaponized the bureau. The lawsuit directly challenges this characterization, arguing the employees performed their assigned duties professionally and without political bias. The complaint states the firings occurred in February 2026, following earlier dismissals of agents who worked on the investigation into Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
Plasmic Echo Investigation Details
The nine employees did not volunteer for the classified documents probe, known internally by the code name Plasmic Echo. They were assigned to the investigation as part of their regular work on specialized counterintelligence and counterespionage squads. The case stemmed from the August 2022 FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago, which led to an indictment against Trump. A federal judge dismissed the charges in 2024, ruling that special counsel Jack Smith had been illegally appointed under the Biden administration.
The lawsuit argues that employees were fired based on unfounded assumptions about their political beliefs. According to the complaint, the administration incorrectly presumed to know the personal political convictions of the plaintiffs and took unlawful action based on that presumption, despite their apolitical service records.
Constitutional Crisis Alleged
The former employees assert their terminations represent an immeasurable loss to America’s national security. The lawsuit states they were unlawfully terminated not for any legitimate cause, but solely to satisfy the President’s personal vendetta. The firings did not follow any internal investigation or disciplinary process within the FBI, and the employees received no notice, hearing, or opportunity to appeal their dismissals.
The complaint seeks multiple remedies including full reinstatement to the FBI, awards of back pay, and a court declaration that the firings violated federal law. Their attorneys promise the lawsuit will prove the unlawful nature of the dismissals and hold the administration accountable for what they characterize as a blatant attack on the rule of law.

These former FBI agents certainly have every right to take action against Wrongful Termination. But hopefully we will find out if there were other underlying reasons for their terminations. I hope everyone on all sides can be honest about this, because this is very important in carrying out justice. Having worked as a civilian for the Department of Defense for 30 years, I know just how rotten certain “high level managers” can be.
But it is important to mention that, in the final analysis, it was never determined that Trump did anything wrong and there was never any sensitive information uncovered during these investigations of these documents.
