TRUMP RIPS Senate Parliamentarian After GOP BORDER SETBACK

President Trump unleashed a blistering attack on Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough after she struck down critical provisions of a $72 billion border security reconciliation package, demanding Republicans replace the Obama-era appointee who he claims has repeatedly undermined conservative priorities.

Border Funding Package Gutted by Parliamentarian

Last Thursday, MacDonough rejected three essential components of the Senate’s reconciliation bill designed to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol operations. The blocked provisions included main Border Patrol funding, additional Department of Homeland Security appropriations, and border security technology and screening measures. The reconciliation package became necessary after a 75-day government shutdown that ended last month when the House passed Senate-approved funding for the Department of Homeland Security, with ICE and Border Patrol set to receive separate funding.

Senate Republicans assembled the $72 billion reconciliation package specifically to restore funding for border enforcement agencies. Democrat and Republican staffers met with MacDonough to review the package, but the parliamentarian’s rulings effectively dismantled the core border security funding Republicans sought to implement.

Trump Demands Replacement of Obama Appointee

In a lengthy Truth Social statement, Trump slammed Senate Republicans for refusing to replace MacDonough, who was appointed during the Obama administration by then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Trump characterized her tenure as consistently favoring Democrats while blocking Republican initiatives. He accused Republicans of playing a soft game compared to Democrats, who he claims stick together and would eliminate the filibuster immediately upon gaining the opportunity.

The president warned that failure to pass the SAVE AMERICA Act or eliminate the filibuster would result in permanent Republican electoral losses. Trump predicted Democrats would add Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico as states, gaining four senators, additional House members, and Electoral College votes, while expanding the Supreme Court to 21 justices.

Constitutional Powers at Stake

Trump’s statement urged Republicans to get smart and tough, warning they would lose their positions sooner than expected without decisive action. The president emphasized that Democrats would eliminate the filibuster on their first day in power, arguing Republicans wrongly believe Democrats would never take such action. The clash highlights ongoing tensions between executive branch priorities and Senate procedural rules that require bipartisan cooperation or narrow exceptions like budget reconciliation to advance major legislation.
